India outplays Bangladesh to seal the semifinal berth

Bangladesh was simply no match for India in the second quarterfinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 as India won the match by 109 runs. India had it easy in the end although there were times when it seemed that the pressure of a big match might have just taken a toll on India. However they came over that and emerged victorious against a side that had troubled big teams in this tournament.

India won the toss on a bright sunny day at the MCG and Dhoni never hesitated to take the opportunity of batting first. The boys responded well as India got off to a solid start. But in the middle overs 3 wickets put India in a spot of bother. Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina came to India’s rescue and set India on for a big total. Sharma completed his century before getting out on 137 while Suresh Raina scored 65 off 57 balls. Ravindra Jadeja came in late to score a quickfire 23 off just 10 balls to take India’s total to 302/6 in 50 overs. The Bangladeshi bowlers did put India under a bit of pressure in the middle overs but could not just maintain that, perhaps because of their inexperience on the big stage and let the advantage go.

Bangladesh did make a decent start to their innings, thanks to Tamim Iqbal’s brisk innings of 25 runs. But after the fall of the first wicket Bangladesh never looked like getting to that target. Soumya Sarkar (29) and Mahmudullah (21) played well but it was not enough as no one went on to score a big hundred or play an anchoring innings like that of Rohit Sharma. Indian pacers made things easier for Dhoni with some disciplined bowling. Shami picked up 2 wickets but today’s star with the ball in hand was Umesh Yadav who picked up 4 wickets giving away 31 runs in 9 overs. The spinners once again bowled well although the pacers left almost nothing for them. Ashwin bowled economically, Jadeja picked up 2 wickets and Raina gave away just 15 runs in 3 overs.

It was an all round performance for the Men in Blue as their neighbours were just washed out of the tournament by some clinical stuff. Rohit Sharma got the man-of-the-match for his exceptional innings with the bat. But it was not just Rohit Sharma, it was Team India who played as a unit and beat the Bangladeshi tigers comprehensively.
