Charlie Austin deepens the gloom that surrounds Old Trafford
Jurgen Klopp’ glasses were shred into pieces, admist the wild celebration late on in the 95th minute which included the players as well as the coaching staff.
That was the product of a game full of shambolic defending and individual mistakes.
It seemed as though Steven Naismith would be a hero instantly for the Cranaries after Dieumerci Mbokani levelled the scoring following Roberto Firmino’s classy backheel goal.
The Scotsman got his first Everton goal against Liverpool, and this time around, on his debut for Alex Neil’s side, struck against the Merseyside based club again.
Pathetic defending from Liverpool meant that Norwich could further extend their advantage after Alberto Moreno tripped Steven Naismith in the box which lead to Wesley Hoolahan calmly converting the spot kick to give the home side a 3-1 lead.
Jordan Henderson got the deficit down to one goal after exploiting a hole in the Norwich defence and calmly slotting it past Norwich keeper Declan Rudd.
The fighting spirit and never say die attitude was key in levelling the scorings as Roberto Firmino got his name on the scoresheet for the Second time with 27 minutes to spare.
There was rucus and drama all around Carrow Road surrounding a dreadful pass by Russell Martin to which James Milner capitalised and gave the away side a 4-3 lead with nothing but stoppage time remaining.
The lead didn’t last for long thanks to Sebastian Bassong’s brilliantly struck finish from 22 yards to level the scores once again.
However it was tragedy for Norwich and elation for Liverpool as the Cranaries failed to clear and Lallana’s shot chipped over the Norwich goalkeeper.
It was a game that lacked luster, particularly for Manchester United despite a tweak in tactics, changing to a 3 at the back system that Louis Van Gaal initially started off with in his tenure at Man United.
The only real shot on target was Daley Blind’s hopeful attempt from 40 yards out which was collected by Goalkeeper Fraser Forster comfortably.
It was probably written in the stars somewhere that Charlie Austin would come off the bench on his debut and get the winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford, because that is exactly what happened after James Ward-Prowse’s cross from a deadball found the Englishman who had an open header and made no mistake in slotting it past David De Gea, Man United’s No. 1
If at all things were looking good for Manchester United following a win at Anfield, the lights have dimmed again following what one would say a shambolic performance and groans all around Old Trafford.
Pressure’s on!
