Roger Federer had it easy against the world no. 35 in hid pursuit of the 18th Grand Slam and 8th Wimbledon title. It took him just even less than an hour to see the back of Santiago Giraldo as he beat the Colombian 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. In the match Federer had to save two break points only and was never put under any sort of pressure as it seemed like a stroll in the park for the Swiss.
Rafael Nadal had to make yet another comeback after getting one set down, this time to Mikhail Kukushkin. And it was almost a repetition of his previous match where he made a strong come back after losing the first set against Lukas Rosol. In the end it was pretty easy for Nadal who got better of the Kazakh by a scoreline of 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Kukushkin after winning the first set could not stand up to Rafa’s class and eventually succumbed after raising the possibilities of an upset.
However Serena Williams was not that fortunate. She made a good start getting better of her opponent in the first set. But Alize Cornet made a dramatic turn around in the rest of the match to overturn the tables and send the Americans for an early flight back to USA. The score at the end of the match read 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in favour of the French. It was not for the first time that Alize got better of Serena since she had beaten the mighty American earlier this year. With this win, Alize made it to the last 16 of a Grand Slam for only the second time in her career. But this will surely be more memorable as it is always special to beat the former champion and the top-seed Serena Williams in Wimbledon.
