After refusing to discuss a new deal with his current club Real Madrid, rumours have started circulating that Cristiano Ronaldo may announce a dramatic comeback to Manchester United.
According to some media reports Manchester United’s Chief Executive David Gill met Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes and discussed the possibility of Portuguese striker’s return to Old Trafford.
After Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, Man United is desperate to get back Ronaldo. It would help not only United’s next Manager David Moyes, but the move will also influence Wayne Rooney to remain with the club.
Recently Sir Alex Ferguson said he wants Ronaldo back to Manchester.
‘Was I tempted to bring him back? Yes. He’s still in the hamper!’ Ferguson was quoted saying.
Ronaldo had won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one Champions League for Manchester United in his six years at Old Trafford. United made a profit of £80m when they sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009.
Ronaldo’s contract with Real Madrid will expire in July 2015 but he has repeatedly showed his displeasure with the team. He has a strange relationship with Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho. Both are not in best of talking terms and reportedly Ronaldo has told one potential club that he would not play for that club if Mourinho move there.
Meanwhile Real Madrid is still confident that Ronaldo will stay with the club as he is not for sale.
