Perhaps they were simply sickened by the dryness and flat character of the turf, or may be, it was just the beginning of the preparations for the arrival of India next summer, that made them believe that the surface needed some more moisture, and thus required a bit of watering.
Rumours spread that few members from the Aussie media had spotted number of English players including, Kevin Pietersen, Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson, urinating on the historic Oval square as a part of their celebration after clinching the Ashes 3-0. The alleged incident had been reported to have taken place close to midnight when the English players and few of the support staffs were on the field for a traditional end-of-series drinks celebration. Such was the extent of the report that the British Sports Minister called for a probe into the whole matter. However the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) denied to make any comment on this “non-issue”.
Well, after such nauseting, to put it mildly, activities of the English players, and that too on such a historical ground as The Oval, can cricket be anymore called a “gentleman’s game” ??
