Chile got off the mark in the FIFA World Cup 2014 with a comfortable victory over the Socceroos at Cuiaba. The South Americans beat the Kangaroos 3-1 in an encounter which turned out to be a real intriguing one.
If the first half belonged to the Chileans, the second half undoubtedly went to the Australians. Chile began the match with a bang taking a lead of 2-0 within a quarter of an hour, thanks to early goals from Alexis Sanchez in the 12th minute and Valdivia in the 14th minute. But the Australians never gave up and came back strongly after Tim Cahill had given them a lifeline in the 35th minute.
The second half began with the match rightly in balance with the scoreline being 2-1. Australia pressed forward in search of the equalizer but the Chilean defense stood tall and averted any sort of threat put forward by the Socceroos. Chile however made the score look comprehensive with a goal in the stoppage time. Beausejour took advantage of the free spaces left in the Australian defense as they were putting men forward in search of the illusive equalizer and put the results beyond any doubt in the 92nd minute.
Chile with this win is in a great position to qualify from Group B after Spain was crashed to a 5-1 defeat in the hands of the Dutchmen. Australia despite such a spirited fight might have to just settle for the final spot at the end of the group matches.
