Chelsea edge past Liverpool; ManU toil hard against Crystal Palace

Chelsea maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League with another win- this time Liverpool becoming the victim of their onslaught. The match ended on the anticipated note with Chelsea winning it 2-1, thanks to Diego Costa’s late winner.

liverpoolChelsea did not have best of the starts as Liverpool took the lead in the 9th minute when Emre Can’s shot found the back of the net after getting deflected off Gary Cahill. Gary Cahill made amends for that by scoring the equalizer within five minutes of conceding the goal. The Goal line technology came into action as Gary Cahill’s header was pushed back from inside the goal line by Liverpool keeper Mignolet. In the second half it was Chelsea’s star striker Diego Costa who scored yet again to earn 3 points in the league table. Towards the end Liverpool were denied a penalty when Gary Cahill was found guilty of handling the ball inside the penalty area.

With this win Chelsea made sure that they stay clear of Southampton at the second spot who won 2-0 in their match later on. On the other side it was Liverpool’s third consecutive defeat and for the first time in Brendan Rodgers era that Liverpool are facing such a crisis. This defeat has left Rodgers a lot of questions whose answers will be tough ones for him to find out.

crystal_palacIn an afternoon kick-off at Old Trafford Manchester United managed to get past the challenge of Crystal Palace with a scoreline of 1-0, thanks to Juan Mata’s 67th minute strike. United looked listless and really lacked the cutting edge as Louis Van Gaal tried to experiment with a new 4-1-4-1 formation with Di Maria and Januzaj playing wide on the wings and Robin van Persie as the lone striker. It was only after Juan Mata’s arrival that United looked a bit more likely to score. Also the lack of players in the bench due to injuries added to Van Gaal’s problems. However this win saw them climb up to the 6th spot from the 10th position in the league table. But as long as United engage players in wrong positions the future doesn’t look brighter for United, at least in the ongoing season.
