It was a round of FA Cup where almost all the bigger names in English football got the taste of the FA Cup. It all began with Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Cambridge United away from home. It was a close call for the Red Devils as they survived early blows from the home team to set up a rematch at Old Trafford. The United fans could also consider themselves a bit unlucky for their team did almost everything right in the second half except scoring the goal so that they could have avoided a replay.
However the other big names like current league leaders Chelsea, defending premier league champion Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspurs and Southampton all lost their respective ties in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Chelsea went down to Bradford City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. It was really humiliating for the Blues for they led 2-0 after 38 minutes thanks to goals from Gary Cahill and Ramires. However they failed to hold on to the lead as Bradford came back to stage one of the famous upsets of recent times. Jonathan Stead, Filipe Morais, Andy Halliday and Mark Yeates scored for Bradford in this memorable encounter.
Manchester City lost to Middlesbrough 2-0 even after starting the match in high spirits. They were playing well but could not convert those into goals. And Middlesbrough, once one of the better teams of the Premier League, took the opportunity and shocked the defending champions of the Premier League. Patrick Bamford and Patricia Kike scored for the visitors to leave the home crowd in a state of awe.
Tottenham Hotspurs and Southampton also suffered the same fate as that of the current Premier League contenders. While Spurs lost to Leicester City at white Hart Lane by a margin of 2-1, the Saints lost their encounter against Crystal Palace 3-2 also at their own backyard.
