Dethroning defending world champion Viswanathan Anand, 22-year-old world number one Magnus Carlsen became the new and youngest world chess champion.
The Norwegian challenger won the championship 6.5-3.5 on Friday in Chennai after completing 12-game event. The last game between Carlsen and Anand ended in a draw.
Incidentally Carlsen’s mentor Garry Kasparov won the chess championship at the age of 22.
After the match Anand said he is disappointed.
“I was simply not able to execute my strategy,” Five-time world champion Anand said.
Carlsen won three games and drew remaining seven on his way to become the champion.
