Barcelona wins 2-0; PSG drubs Leverkusen 4-0

The knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League 2013-14 kicked off last night with the giants of Europe ready to lock horns after a break of 3 months. Barcelona was up against the blue half of Manchester in the first match of the knock-outs at the Etihad. In the other match of the night PSG was up against Bayer Leverkusen away from home.

Barcelona wins 2-0 against Manchester CityBarcelona has a clinical victory at the Etihad Stadium as they emerged victorious by a margin of 2-0. Also they have scored 2 crucial away goals which have almost shattered the dreams of the Man City fans of qualifying for the next round. The first half was goalless with the City defenders standing tall against any sort of Barca attack. But with the beginning of the second half their resistance fell apart as Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the spot. Barca pressed for more goals and got their rewards in the 90th minute when Dani Alves scored the crucial 2nd away goal for the Spanish giants.

In Germany, Bayer 04 Leverkusen got a thumping from Paris Saint Germain as the French side won 4-0 away from home. Blais Matuidi opened the scoring for the visitors as early as in the 3rd minute of the match. Ibrahimovic then scored from a controversial penalty. But the moment of the match came just before the end of the first half when Ibra added one more spectacular goal from the edge of the box. Yohan Cabaye scored for his new club towards the end of the match to add to the misery of the Germans. With this 4-0 win, PSG is almost through to the quarterfinals of the tournament even before the second leg is played.
