Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes dies

Phillip Hughes, the promising 25-year-old Australia cricketer passed away at Sydney’s St. Vincent’s Hospital on Wednesday night. He was hospitalized after he suffered a head injury during a Sheffield Shield match three days ago.

Hughes was in induced coma after an emergency surgery and later succumbed to his injury.

In a statement Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said, “It is my sad duty to inform you that a short time ago Phillip Hughes passed away. He never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday.”

Hughes scored 3 centuries and 7 fifties in his 26 Tests career for Australia. He made 1535 Test runs. He also played 25 ODIs and a T20 international.
