Andy Murray Wins US Open 2012 Men’s Singles Title

Andy Murray ends 76-year British misery when he clinches his first Grand Slam title at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday. The last time any British player won the major title was Fred Perry who won US championship in 1936.

The London Olympic champion Andy Murray beat defending champion  and world number 2 Novak Djokovic 7-6 (12/10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 in an epic final to win the US open 2012 men’s singles title. This is Murray’s 24th career win.

Along with his first Grand Slam victory, Murray is taking home whopping $2.9 million prize money.

“Relief is probably the best word I would use to describe how I’m feeling just now. You do think, is it ever going to happen?”said the 25-year-old history maker during the award ceremony.

After ending Britain’s long drought Murray also moved to No. 3 in the ATP rankings behind Roger Federer and Djokovic.

“Well, any loss is a bad loss. There is no question about it,” disappointed Djokovic said. “I’m disappointed to lose the match, but in the back of my mind I knew that I gave it all. I really, really tried to fight my way back,” he adds.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
