Manchester United tasted a much awaited victory in the Premier League after three long weeks when the rallied back to beat bottom-placed Sunderland 2-1 in the Stadium of Lights. 18-year old Belgian Adnan Januzaj turned out to be the show stealer as he went to score a brace to see United through in a tricky encounter away from home.
The home team had a great start to the match when they opened the scoring in the 4th minute of the match through a Craig Gardner grounder after a defensive lapse from Phil Jones and Nemanja Vidic. United played a chasing game throughout the first half as they failed to create any clear opening to score the equalizer. However with the start of the second half the English Champions got back the much needed spark as they began to create a lot of pressure in the opponent’s defense. It paid off when the Januzaj restored parity with a clinical right footer in the 55th minute. He provided United the lead when he volleyed a loose ball in to the back of the net in the 67th minute. United went on to hold the lead and came out victorious much to the relief of the manager and the fans.
Manchester City also got back to winning ways after their last week shock defeat against Aston Villa when they beat Everton 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Yaya Toure, Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero. Liverpool also tasted victory by same margin as that of City against lowly placed Crystal Palace. While Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge scored to give the Reds the lead, Steven Gerrard made no mistake from the spot to ensure Liverpool a deserved victory.
Liverpool is now placed at the apex of the Premier League table though they have played one more game than that of Arsenal. United also made a come back into the top half of the league table following their hard fought win over Sunderland.
