Almost 230,000 tickets for the 2014 World Cup were sold out from FIFA’s website on Monday in just 7 hours.
This was the second phase of selling tickets for World Cup which to be held in Brazil next year. In the first phase, 890,000 tickets were sold altogether.
FIFA is understandably very happy with this and said the “level of interest was impressive.” Fans can only request for four tickets and seven matches out of the total 64 matches .
According to FIFA they have requested more than 6.2 million requests for tickets for the 2014 World Cup. The demand will be higher on December 8 sale as already fans get to know the World Cup draw and venue. FIFA said they have reserved almost 8 per cent of the tickets for the supporters of each team playing in the first-round matches. However, 62% tickets are going to Brazilians.
“It was great to see that both internationals and Brazilians were aiming to grab the remaining tickets from the first batch of tickets made available,” FIFA marketing director Thierry Weil said.
