Several residents lost their lives and many others were injured in a cylinder blast that took place in a residential building in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabua district early Saturday morning. A cylinder exploded in a Sethiya hotel situated on the ground of a residential building in Petlawad town at around 8:30 in the morning.
Rescue teams and police officials were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. Several were feared trapped in the debris as the rescue operation was being carried out and injured people were rushed to the hospital. Reports that emerged earlier claimed the alleged presence of explosives used in making firecrackers stored in the building. However, Home Minister Babulal Gaur said it was a cylinder blast that took place in the hotel, propelling the further damage.
At the time of filing this report, conflicting figures of the casualties were emerging. Police said close to 20 people were feared dead and many others were injured. A few were feared trapped under the debris and the police claimed complete figures could only emerge once the debris was cleared.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced compensation for the families of dead and injured.
