Rocky Yadav continues to abscond, parents claim son innocent

Late on Saturday, Bihar Legislative Council member, Manorama Devi’s son, Rocky Yadav shot dead a 19-year-old teenager, Aditya Sachdev in a seemingly case of road rage.

As Aditya Sachdev was returning with his four friends from a birthday party across the town, Rocky Yadav shot him on his head from behind his car as he over-took his car on a narrow street. It is said that Yadav had repeatedly given signs to Sachdev to move his car so as to let him pass, however Sachdev and his friends had ignored him. Soon Yadav squeezed past his car and fired gunshots in the air to force them to stop, according to Sachdev’s friend.

Mistaking the gunshots as the sound of a tyre bursting, Sachdev and his friends stopped the car, after which Rocky also stopped his SUV and went ahead to argue with them.

All this happened near the Rampur police station area, where Yadav allegedly got into a fight with Aditya and his friends and started to punch them together with his mother’s bodyguard Rajesh Kumar. It is said that Rocky’s bodyguard and another guard sitting in the front seat were armed with firearms. Eye-witness accounts claim that when Aditya and his friends tried to leave the spot, they were fired upon by Rocky from behind which hit Aditya straight in the head.

Aditya was then declared dead on arrival at Gaya’s Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital

Rocky’s father, Bindi Yadav, infamous as a criminal, according to Sushil Kumar Modi, has a different account of the events. He said that the five teenagers in the car of Aditya Sachdev had roughed up Rocky Yadav and that his son had accidentally fired his ‘licensed’ pistol in an attempt to defend himself. Defending his son, Bindu Yadav said that it is anyone’s right to defend.

Aditya Sachdev is the son of businessman Shyamsunder Sachdev, whose elder son told the press that , “Everyone knows my brother was killed by Bindi Yadav’s son. It is a pure case of road rage. Aditya would seldom ask for a vehicle. As he was waiting for his Class XII results and wanted a break, we allowed him to visit Bodhgaya with some friends.”

The incident has been received with a lot of sympathy and rage. Residents have set up blockades in Gaya and demanded Rocky’s arrest. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, leader of the JD(U) party whose member is the accused’s mother, Manorama Devi, has said that no one will be spared from legal action and if evidences are procured as such, then Rocky’s legislator mother Manorama Devi would also be acted against.

Currently, main accused Rocky Yadav is absconding since the incident and his father Bindu Yadav and another man Rajesh Kumar have been arrested.

Gaya SSP Garima Malik said they had arrested Bindi because of “inconsistencies” in his statement. Police have been carrying out raids and searches to find the absconding.
