Monday afternoon ushered in a sense of panic as Puducherry police officials began investigating on a death threat issued to Congress Vice-president and leader Rahul Gandhi, and also to former Union Minister V. Narayanasamy.
At the time of running this report, officials had been making detailed investigations upon the anonymously-written letter, in Tamilian script and which was addressed to Mr. Narayanasamy, firmly warning him that if he dared to criticise or prevent the “loading contract’ in the Mettupalayam industrial area from happening, once more, he and the “son of former Prime Minister” shall be blown and reduced to mere nothings. Gandhi is scheduled to visit the area of Karaikal, on Tuesday.
A team comprising of Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress-head Sonia Gandhi, Treasurer Motilal Vohra, Congress Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma, and MP Rajiv Shukla, reportedly met Singh and ‘apprised’ him about the threat, with Singh understanding and assuring them for the necessary arrangements to be made. Following requests from the worried Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi’s security was beefed on Monday.
