A man has been arrested by the French police on the suspicion of planning an attack on “one or two churches”, according to the nation’s interior ministry.
The man, 24, whose identity is being withheld had also expressed a desire to travel to Syria, according to the officials. He is also suspected of the murder of a woman named Aurelie Chatelain, who was found dead in a car, near Paris, though no concrete link has been established as of yet. A student studying computer science who had been residing in the nation since several years, was detained on Sunday, after he accidentally shot himself and called for an ambulance immediately. The police later traced the blood stains back to his home where, on detailed investigation, they found notes that were ”unambiguously demonstrating”.
Several war weapons and other ammunition alongwith advanced software were reportedly discovered in his car and at his home.
Hundreds of French citizens have travelled to the Islamic State nations of Syria and Iraq to support the militants, with many more at home with links to recruitment cells.
Though detained, there hasn’t been enough strong evidence to propose anything as of yet. Police are still investigating into the matter. Security arrangements have been strengthened all over in France after the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices and a Jewish supermarket.
