As expected, Jaipal Reddy has been shunted out of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The saving grace is that he hasn’t been jettisoned from the Cabinet but shifted to the relatively insignificant Ministry of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. A sad development it is for a politician widely respected for his uprightness.
The following are the changes in the incumbencies of the various principal ministries with ministers of Cabinet rank heading them:
External Affairs – Salman Khursheed
Law – Ashwani Kumar
Petroleum & Gas – M.Veerappa Moily
Railways – P.K.Bansal
The changes in the incumbencies of other ministries with minsters of cabinet rank heading them are:
Culture (Smt.Chandresh Kumari Katoch), Housing and Poverty Alleviation (Ajay Maken), Human Resource Development (M.M.Pallam Raju), Minority Affairs (K.Rahman Khan), Mines (Dinshaw J.Patel) and Water Resources ( Harish Rawat).
Some of the changes in the ministries with Ministers of State handling them are: Power (Jyotiraditya Scindia), I&B (Manish Tewari), Tourism (K.Chiranjeevi), and Corporate Affairs (Sachin Pilot).
Incidentally, the Drinking Water and Sanitation portfolio has been taken away from Jairam Ramesh – whose forthright comments aimed at improving the sanitation facilities in the country have left a lot of people grumbling – and assigned to Bharatsin Solanki with independent charge.
