If everything goes well then Eastern Army Commander Lt General Bikram Singh will be appointed as the next Army Chief of India. Ministry of Defence would be put up for approval of the Cabinet Committee on Appointments sometime in the next two weeks. The announcement may expected by March 10.
Present Army Chief Gen V K Singh retires on May 31.
Currently the Intelligence agency is checking unusual verification on Bikram Singh’s family especially the background of his daughter-in-law after controversy sparked over her origin. Defence ministry asked clearance from intelligence agencies on the matter. The allegation is that Lt Gen Singh’s daughter-in-law was a Pakistani, however the intelligence agencies said that Singh’s daughter-in-law is an American citizen and her father is an Afghan.
