After having been expelled from the party’s National Executive, senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan will be holding a convention on the 14th of April, with all the volunteers and supporters backing them. This meeting is said to be a crucial one, as they are to decide on their future course.
Sources, reported the Indian Express, have indicated that this convention might see those leaders of the AAP who are dismayed by the events of Saturday’s National Council.
Establishing another political party is an option that is being contemplated. However, a leader, quoted by the Indian Express said, “The other (option) is to form a front that fights on key issues. There are so many that the country suffers from like land acquisition, forest rights and so on. It is all a matter of discussion at this stage, but most believe that these are the two most viable options before us.”
The two leaders had earlier expressed gloom over the decision that was instantly taken during the Saturday’s National Executive meeting. Discontent among the members followed the decision and dismay was articulated by many, some of them calling it a “murder of democracy”.
