The Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was summoned by a federal court in New York for “shielding and protecting” the Congress leaders who were accused of taken part in anti-Sikh riots in 1984.
“Summons issued almost 30 years after the event when the Congress president is on a medical visit is, to put it mildly, astonishing. Undoubtedly, appropriate legal action will be taken,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.
Sonia Gandhi is currently in USA for treatment and she will be handed the notice soon.
A Sikh community in US had lodged the complaint against Mrs. Gandhi at Eastern District Court of New York, for her alleged role in “shielding and protecting” party leaders who should be tried for “crimes against humanity.”
