Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced that Tamil Nadu will not host the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships in Chennai over killing of LTTE chief V Prabhakaran’s son. She also said that her government will not allow Lankan players to visit the state.
Ms. Jayalalithaa has informed that her government had written to the Asian Athletics Association in Singapore asking to remove Lankan team from participation in the 20th Asian Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in July. But she has not received any reply.
“Since there has been no favourable response from the Asian Athletics Association, my government will at no cost accept holding the event, in which Sri Lanka is also participating, in Tamil Nadu. Tamils also will never accept it,” Jatalalitha further said.
Yesterday Jayalalithaa slammed the Lankan government over the alleged killing of 12-year-old V Balachandran, son of Tamil Tiger chief Prabhakaran, by the Sri Lankan army.
