Sushma Swaraj meets President over Lokpal selection panel issue

Senior BJP member and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj today meets President Pranab Mukherjee regarding controversial appointment of Lokpal selection panel.

Ms Swaraj urged president to intervene in the matter to choose an unanimous jurist to the Lokpal selection panel.

Earlier BJP has raised objection over the appointment of senior Supreme Court lawyer PP Rao as a member of the Lokpal selection panel because of his close proximity with the Congress party. His name was suggested by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was supported by the

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Justice HL Dattu, who is Chief Justice P Sathasivam’s nominee to the panel.

BJP wants a neutral judge in the panel and proposed names like former attorney general K Parasaran, former solicitor general Harish Salve, former Attorney-General Soli Sorabjee and eminent jurist Fali Nariman as a fifth member of the Lokpal selection panel.
