The Apex court on Wednesday stayed the execution of Veerappan’s four aides for another six weeks. They had approached the Supreme Court seeking reduction in their death sentences. Their execution was earlier scheduled for last Sunday.
Veerappan’s four aides – Gnanaprakash, Simon, Meesekar Madaiah and Bilavendran – were awarded with death sentences in 2004. They were responsible for killing 22 policemen in a landmine blast in 1993 at Palar in Karnataka.
The president, Pranab Mukherjee had already rejected their mercy plea.
