Citing Afzal Guru’s hanging episode, the Supreme Court has stayed execution of eight death row convicts for a month following President Pranab Mukherjee’s rejection on their mercy plea.
The Supreme Court has said that it does not want to repeat the same event what had happened in case of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and it wants to make sure that the families of the 8 prisoners to be informed properly prior to the execution.
The President of India has rejected mercy plea of 8 convicts charged on multiple murders and rapes.
Earlier Pranab Mukherjee had rejected mercy plea of Mumbai terror attack convict Ajmal Kasab and Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
