Supreme Court sends notice to UP govt over minor rape victim’s arrest in Bulandshahr on Wednesday over alleged detention of a 10-year-old rape victim by Bulandshahr police.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Altamas Kabir expressed shock over the minor girl’s illegal detention by the Bulandshahr police when the girl went to Mahila Thana to lodge the complaint with her parents on Sunday. The girl was kept in the lock-up for several hours.
The girl was reportedly abducted and raped. Bulandshahr police said they have arrested the accused on Monday.
After media reports and strong reaction across the country, two women constables on duty were suspended.
On Monday, the Bulandshahr police claimed to have arrested the accused who had allegedly raped the minor.
“How can the police detain a ten-year-old girl?” the bench asked.
