Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday demanded stronger action against the rape of the five-year-girl in New Delhi.
Sonia Gandhi reportedly told officials that “Now words alone are not enough, we need action,”
Congress Party spokesperson Janardan Dwivedi said that Gandhi is in touch with government officials and demands immediate action.
Vice President Hamid Ansari says, “I am deeply saddened and outraged at the brutal rape of the five-year old child in Delhi. My thoughts and prayers are for a speedy recovery of the child. We must ensure that the best possible medical treatment is provided to the little one.”
“Apart from bringing the perpetrator of this heinous crime to justice expeditiously, it is critical for all of us to reflect on why these barbaric acts keep recurring in our midst. We need to collectively work towards urgently changing the regressive mindset vis-a-vis our womenfolk prevalent in our society. Else, our heads would continue to hang in shame and we will lose our right to be called a civilized, progressive society,” he added.
President Pranab Mukherjee is reportedly shocked and anguished over the brutal rape of 5-year-old girl.
“I am shocked and deeply anguished at the latest incident of sexual assault and rape of a five-year-old child in Delhi. I join her family in praying for a speedy recovery and call upon concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical attention for her,” Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony quoted the President as saying.
