Senior AAP leader Shazia Ilmi is reportedly quitting the party over ‘political differences’. This will be a huge loss for AAP following Lok Sabha debacle.
Former journalist and founding member of AAP Shazia’s decision to quit the party comes at a time when its chief Arvind Kejriwal has chosen to stay in jail in the Nitin Gadkari defamation case. Ilmi episode will surely damage the party heavily.
A source close to Ilmi has said that the media face of the party has been upset with AAP’s decisions to sideline her. Kejriwal’s decision to give Delhi Lok Sabha tickets to “outsiders” like Ashutosh and Ashish Khetan has fueled Ilmi’s anger. She has contested elections twice and she lost both the time. Its speculated that she is having political differences with party for the last several months and that’s the main reason behind her resignation.
Shazia is holding a press conference later today to announce the resignation.
