Led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), approved and cleared the Rs 6,600-crore acquisition plan of 490 French advanced missile systems to arm the Mirage-2000 fighter jets of Indian Air Force.
On Wednesday the cabinet approved the contract for the fire-and-forget MICA – which is an interception and aerial combat missile – with French armament MBDA.
In another defense deal over Rs 3,000 crore, which is is likely to be approved next week, India will acquire 75 Swiss turbo-prop aircraft to train IAF rookie pilots.
Reports are suggested that India is planning the biggest-ever defense project at around $ 35 billion in which India will develop 250-300 stealth fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) in corporation with Russia.
