Rescue operations underway in Tamil Nadu

The rescue operations are currently underway in several parts of Tamil Nadu which are waterlogged following insistent rain for the last few days.

Although since Monday night the rainfall stopped in many places including Chennai, but the Met department has warned that heavy rain will resume on Tuesday.

At least 71 people have died, and 50,000 people have been evacuated and sent to relief camps across Chennai after the Indian Air Force and Army have launched massive rescue operations.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced Rs 500 crore relief package for operation and rehabilitation.
