Congress seems to have losing its focus. Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh’s recent criticism of Rahul Gandhi comes as a surprise and shock to the party ahead of the assembly elections in the five states.
Recently Jairam has said that he is little disappointed with Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. “My frustration is that he is too forward looking, he is talking of structure, systems, he is talking of building Congress in the long term whereas we are now faced with fighting an election in the short term.” Congress leadership was seen baffled for a moment on how to react on Ramesh’s comment. Although they tried downplay with the comments without much success. “Rahul Gandhi has been touring all the poll-bound states. He is in a combative mode and his speeches show that he is serious,” Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit defended Rahul. Another Congress spokesman Meem Afzal was seen avoided the issue. “I have not seen it very honestly. I tried to contact Jairam Ramesh but could not”. BJP, however, did not waste much time and was quick to response. “Jairam’s statement shows the exasperation of the Congress. The fact they are thinking beyond 2014 shows they have conceded defeat,” BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said. “Ramesh has accepted defeat in 2014. Practically even before starting the battle, they have conceded defeat. Ramesh cursing that Modi will be finished will not happen. This is exasperation and frustration. Therefore, they are cursing Modi which will not impact people who have decided to change the current regime”, Javadekar further said. “It is an established fact that Rahul Gandhi is taking too long to learn and Congress workers are getting impatient as he is not coming up to their expectations in providing them that leadership. The pace of his learning itself will ensure it is going to take a very long time,” BJP spokesman Capt Abhimanyu added.
