Rahul Gandhi slams the Suit-Boot government again; uproar in Lok Sabha

Rahul Gandhi is at it again. In the Lok Shabha discussion, he again slammed the government for ‘robbing farmers in daylight’. He led the opposition charge against the Land Acquisition Bill calling it a ‘BJP Weapon’ that favours only the capitalists. The BJP calls this bill as a ‘pro-farmer’ bill whereas the Congress names it ‘elite and anti-farmer’.

The Lok Sabha discussion — a repetition forced by technical reasons of the ordinance having been reissued, requiring a new bill — moved along the expected lines, but in the view of rival camp they’re using it to paint the other as ‘elite’ and ‘anti-farmer’.

It ensured that the ‘suit-boot’ government which was introduced by Rahul almost three weeks ago to slam the Modi government entered parliamentary lexicon as the derisory term of sniping.

While Rahul coined this term for Modi and his governement, the ruling party retaliated by referring to Robert Vadra from the former regime of Congress.

His scorning on the land bill and Modi is very open and familiar to all. He said that the government had dealt ‘axe-blows’ to farmers by removing the consent clause and special impact assessment provision clause. He repeated,””This government is anti-farmer, anti-poor. This is a suit-book ki sarkar.”

This time, Rahul chose to use a new political metaphor to strengthen his attack on Modi. He compared the land bill to ‘Daylight robbery’. He said that,”A Soviet economist told me that thieves don’t always come at night but also in daytime, wearing a suit.

Retaliating for the BJP, Rural Development minister Birender Singh said that he wonders why a poor man wearing a suit became a subject of discussion and asked if it only was the right and privilege of princelings like Jyotiraditya Scindia.

This remark caused a williwaw and the minister expressed regret for mentioning Scindia’s father’s name.

Dilip Singh Bhuria, who had the ruling benches in splits for attacking Congress without touching on the issue, said Rahul could be remembering the suit because Robert Vadra wore it. The use of Gandhi scion’s brother-in-law was meant to be a retaliatory jibe given his name in controversial land deals in Haryana.
