Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP government yet again. He preyed on the ‘Make in India, campaign led by the BJP government. He also targeted the SAD-BJP (Shiromani Akali Dal-Bhartiya Janata Party) rule in Punjab for slow procurement of wheat when he visited the the state on Tuesday.
Khanna, Asia’s largest grain market was visited by Rahul on Tuesday. The farmers and labourers told Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia that Rahul’s visit would be ‘futile’ if he did not address the people present. Therefore, he rolled in the roof of his SUV to address the people. He attacked the NDA and the Akalis which earned him loud cheers from the presentees.
He said that the purpose of his Punjab visit was to show the nation that the ‘government here has forgotten the Punjabi farmer’ and that the ‘Akali government was inefficient’.
“Who’s running the government here? Why are farmers not being compensated for their damaged crops?” Rahul asked. He criticized the Centre by saying ‘despite the hype around Make in India, the farmers state had gone from bad to worse’. He also slammed the BJP Government for attempting to pass the amended version of the Land Acquisition Bill.
“Punjab’s farmer, with his hard work, provides food to the nation. Punjabis have been doing this since Independence. But here, the government has forgotten you. As has the government in Delhi,” Rahul said.
“A few years ago, we had an agitation in Bhatta-Parsaul. Its aim was to help farmers get their rights over their land. We’d also made a law to safeguard their interests. But the BJP government has weakened that law and wants to dump it,” he said.
“The government says ‘Make in India’. But it’s weakening the hands that make India, which produce food for India. I came here to tell you that I am with you and we will pressure both the Akalis and the government in Delhi. We will raise your issues of compensation and slow lifting of food grains. We’re with you,” Rahul said.
