Rahul Gandhi rules out supporting ‘Third Front’

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has ruled out possibilities of supporting Third Front government if the situation arises. While campaigning in his constituency of Amethi, Rahul informed reporters that the party will get majority to form the government on their own.

“We will not support a Third Front… we will get the numbers,” Rahul said adding, “You see we will get majority.”

Rahul Gandhi at AmethiSources are telling that Rahul has conveyed to the senior party leaders that the Congress will sit in the opposition and concentrate on building the organisation rather than forming a government with the help of other parties.

Many senior Congress leaders have been earlier indicated that the party may take or give support to the third front government at the Centre.

“After poll results, if necessary Congress could consider extending support even to the Third Front to form the government. Not only this taking support from the Third Front could be considered,” Salman Khurshid recently had said.

Reacting to the development, BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi told PTI, “They thought even if we lose, we will help third front.

Several Congress leaders made such statements. When they realised that it was damaging them, then Rahul ‘bhaiyya’ tried to change it. They are shaken.”

Rahul’s remarks comes at a time when Third Front convener and CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat had recently said that Congress would be forced to support a government of secular parties at the Centre to keep the BJP out of power.

Samajwadi Party leaders have also claimed that they were confident of getting support from Congress to form Third Front government.

Rahul is currently in Amethi where he is facing a stiff challenges from Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas and BJP’s Smriti Irani.

“Let Congress form the government at the Centre, I will show them what can be done in Amethi….People who come from outside can say whatever they like but Gandhi family shares a relation of love with people of Amethi. They will not be seen once elections are over,” Rahul said.

“Those who are contesting (against me) will run away after election. I have family relations with Amethi. I came here at the age of 12 years with my father (Rajiv Gandhi). I don’t have political relation with this place,” Gandhi added.
