The 59-year-old, BJP vice president, Raghubar Das has sworn in as the first non-tribal chief minister of Jharkhand on Sunday at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi. Four cabinet ministers have also sworn in alongside Das.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah who were suppose to attend the oath taking ceremony, could not reach due to bad weather in Delhi, the flight was cancelled.
“Was to travel to Jharkhand to attend the oath taking ceremony of Shri Raghubar Das but am unable to do so due to weather conditions,” the PM tweeted adding, “I would like to congratulate Raghubar Das on taking over as Jharkhand CM and convey my best wishes to him.”
“Will bring development and good governance to Jharkhand… I want to thank everyone for this opportunity,” the new chief minister said.
The five-time MLA from East Jamshedpur was also the former deputy chief minister of the state. BJP and its allies won 42 seats in the 81-member assembly. This is also the first time for any party to enjoy majority.
