For all those who attended the instrumental concert, organized by Soor Drishti, to pay tribute to the most popular and phenomenal musician and instrumentalist of the yesteryear, still alive in the public memory, Mr R. D. Burman, on his birth anniversary, utmost melody and glee was explicitly experienced. This is a fact that the audience will vouch for. Nine visually challenged instrumentalists, perfect in the art and with their respective instruments, played, presented and revived the songs of Mr Burman in a mesmerizing way, enough for the audience to go gaga over it.
This cultural event organized by Soor Drishti was a musical tribute to the globally acclaimed, great musician, attended by several fans, senior citizens, esteemed guests, including Mr Kesri Patil, Founder of Kesri Tours and Travels, well-wishers, and importantly, teenagers and music enthusiasts, who were more than excited about Mr Burman’s songs. The event was conducted in Mumbai’s prestigious Ramnivas Ruia Junior College, Matunga, and went ahead only to become a huge success.
The concert, a one of its kind, by visually challenged musical band charmed the audience, showering them with the tunes of the fabulous songs. The level of excitement and enjoyment only multiplied as the show proceeded, and the audience was left shaking their heads and tapping feet in sheer enjoyment and to the tunes of the songs. While some songs received “once-more” requests, every song attracted tremendous applause and whistles, and of course, claps. The already existing adjoined warmth of the songs and the enhanced effects, by the instrumentalists, brought tears of joy and satisfaction into several eyes.

Spectralhues interacted with Mr Kautubh Ghaisas, Founder of Soor Drishti and Organizer of the concert. A passionate musician himself, Mr Ghaisas met an amazing keyboard player, a year and a half ago, while he was doing a show, and found that the player was visually challenged. Ghaisas says that rarely did visually challenged instrumentalists were given a chance and so he decided to promote the boy and his talent. Spending a little more time with him led to Ghaisas learn about many other superb, visually challenged instrumentalists from the city, who, though played very well, never had an identity of their own. Subsequently, Ghaisas met and gathered them together and formed a group, hence establishing Soor Drishti, a musical band only of visually challenged instrumentalists.
An engineer by profession, Ghaisas feels promoting such talents is the need of the hour and it is nothing but unfortunate to let their talent go unnoticed, especially when they have so much for the world. Not only does Soor Drishti provide a platform to these terrifically talented instrumentalists, but also it provides them with financial support as they are from unpriviliged families.
Ever since their launch, Soor Drishti has given more than half a dozen shows, in the past, before the tribute concert, and all of them aspire to keep this trend continuing. He tells Spectralhues that people sparsely believed when he asserted about the talent the young men possessed, however, it was only when they attended the shows and concerts, the crystal clear reality of the talented gentlemen and Ghaisas’ claims dawned on.
He feels extremely contented and satisfied to have done this, as Soor Drishti has expanded only to become a family, with more and more visually challenged instrumentalists becoming a part of this group! Ghaisas says, with time, they all will be more than happy to welcome more such talents and provide them with a unique platform.
