Punjab becomes first state to launch night policing in India. The state has formed night policing scheme (NPS), consisting of 4,000 police personnel to guard people of Punjab.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal launched the scheme on Sunday at the Khanpur T-point near Chandigarh.
Mr. Badal told media that NPS will provide safety to night business and trade and will ensure security to restaurants, dhabas, street-hawkers, labours and other night workers including doctors, nurses, call-centre employees, toll and excise barrier staff.
