It seems that finally Congress has understood that Priyanka Gandhi has more chance against BJP’s aggressive Prime Ministerial nominee for this crucial 2014 Lok Sabha Election than her brother Rahul Gandhi.
Although it is too little too late, but still at least Congress is seeing in grabbing headlines ahead of crucial seventh phase of the Lok Sabha Polls courtesy to Priyanka Gandhi and of course her husband Robert Vadra.
A day after BJP released a video accusing Robert Vadra’s ‘illegal’ land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana, Congress has come strongly to defend Robert Vadra.
“Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the then Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot to save their posts were eager to help Vadra. There was a gross violation of laws relating to land and environment. The influence of the family helped make Vadra big earnings in the deals,” senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said while mocking ‘Vadra model’.
Vadra is accused of illegal land deals in Rajasthan in which he has bought acres of land from poor farmers for as low as Rs 20,000 an acre.
Reacting to this, Priyanka Gandhi attacked BJP for targeting her husband.
“They are running around like panic-stricken rats. I knew that they will repeat their bunch of lies. There is nothing new in it but let them say whatever they want to. I am not afraid of anyone and will continue to speak against their negative, destructive and shameful politics,” Priyanka said at a rally in Rae Bareli.
“I will not remain quite and I am waiting for them to say more,” she said. Priyanka was asked about a video and a booklet brought out by BJP on the alleged land deals of her husband which it termed as ‘Robert Vadra model of development’,” she added.
In Vadra’s defense, the Congress party has said that all allegations against Vadra are false and PILs filed against him had been dismissed earlier.
“It is obvious that Priyanka’s clear statements in Amethi and Rae Bareli have gone home creating frustration and fear within the BJP and that is why this is happening,” party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
“It is distressing and unfortunate that the BJP with all its effort has put out old wine in old bottle. I was expecting at least an attempted repackaging like Mr Narendra Modi only repackages himself. This booklet and video is a repetition of old facts,” Singhvi added.
Sharpening the attack on Modi, Priyanka said, “The people of the country understand your Gujarat model very well, where you sold land for a meager amount to your friends.”
“If you want to strengthen the public then tell them where do farmers stand in your model? Tell us what you have done for women…” she added.
