In its desperate attempt to save face, the PMO today came out in defense of ‘silent’ Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and said he has spoken more than 1000 times in his 10-year term.
PM’s current media advisor Pankaj Pachauri has rejected the allegations that Singh had remained silent on various important issues over the last few years.
“The Prime Minister has made more than 1000 speeches and more than half of what he said has been achieved in last 10 years,” Pankaj Pachauri said.
“In the last 10 years, the PM has made a speech every 3 days,” Pachauri said.
Blaming the media for not covering PM’s speech with importance, Pachauri said, “News channels do not cover the Prime Minister as much.”
He, however, claimed that the relation between media and PMO has improved later.
“In the last two years, communication between the media and the PMO has improved,” he said.
He has preferred to talk about politics on the floor of the House and in the last five years the Parliament has not given him enough chances to speak,” he added.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been facing huge embarrassment following the two recent book releases.
In his latest book PM’s former media advisor Sanjaya Baru has criticised Manmohan Singh for surrendering to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and for not having any control over his Cabinet. In his book ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ Baru claimed that Manmohan Singh turned a blind eye to corruption by his colleagues and he did not ‘feel answerable for the misdemeanours of his colleagues and subordinates.’
Former coal secretary PC Parakh has also embarrassed the Prime Minister by revealing controversial ‘truths’ of his tenure. In the book “Crusader or Conspirator’ Parakh claimed that Manmohan Singh had little political authority in the party and in the government.
