PJ Kurien again denies rape charge

The Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, PJ Kurien, has written to the parliamentarians ahead of budget session, denying rape charges against him.

Opposition parties especially Left and the BJP have demanded Kurien’s resignation over his connection in alleged 1996 Surynelli rape case.

In 1996 a girl from Surynelli was kidnapped and later was raped by 42 men in 40 days. The victim named PJ Kurien’s name among those 42 men but he was never touched due to his political connection.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court asked the Kerala High Court to re-open the case.
