He may undergo a lie-detector test

Mumbai, Delhi: The former media mogul of Star TV was taken to Delhi after investigative authorities decided to further the case by uncovering his involvement or knowledge about the brutal assassination of his stepdaughter, Sheena Bora. For the same reasons, the CBI may carry out a lie-detection test on the baron, with support from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. This shift in destination was justified by authorities as an attempt to involve senior supervision for smooth functioning. The Joint Directors, the Special Directors and the CBI Director are expected to participate hands on in the case henceforth.
The murder, that has already seen the conviction of the victim’s mother, Indrani Mukerjea ( married now to Peter Mukerjea), Indrani’s ex-husband Rajeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai, is already shrouded with a complex collection of twists and mysteries. However, authorities have come to establish that the motive for the murder was largely due to financial discrepancies. Arrested last Thursday, Peter Mukerjea’s custody has been extended tentatively until the 26th of November. This comes even as the circumstantial evidence against Peter mounts, including several suspicious phone calls between him and Indrani on the day of the murder (April 28th, 2012) and the Peter telling Rahul, his son, that Sheena was perfectly fine in the USA—Rahul Mukerjea was in a relationship with Sheena Bora at that time.
As far as it goes, Peter Mukerjea has not been cooperative in interrogations, choosing to leave out facts and being unable to justify previous instances of lying. Moreover, the CBI has been unable to recover key physical evidence in the case, and they believe that Peter Mukerjea may be involved in their disposal or hiding. It was in this light that the Court agreed to grant the Police judicial custody on Thursday. Mukerjea’s lawyer, Amit Desai said in court that any extension of custody was unjustified since Mukerjea had religious attended to the Police and CBI calls previously. He even went as far as to demand the court to ask the CBI what they had done until November 19th, when Peter was arrested. Despite this, the court Magistrate, M L Natu was in favour of judicial custody, saying,” Screening an offence for over two and a half years shows the tough mentality of the accused. It’s not the behaviour of a common man.”
Anil Singh, additional solicitor and representative of the CBI in court argued, “We need time. We were entitled to arrest him, interrogate him and find out the truth. This case has ultimately come to the knowledge of everyone after three years. Two days’ custody was not sufficient. This is not an ordinary case. A female who has killed her daughter could not have done it alone. What is crucial is financial transactions, which cannot be unearthed without questioning him. Earlier Peter was coming to visit the police station as a witness, not an accused. No fingers were pointed at him then, it is only after we had some material against him that we arrested him. We need to know why they (Peter and Indrani) tried to access Sheena’s email account.”
In a case that is clouded with so many inconsistencies, the CBI has also requested the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to divulge information about Sheena Bora’s transactions , since the discovery of financial disputes within the torn family have arisen and taken the prime spot in the list of motives.
