The Ministry of External Affairs has asked the Maharashtra police to probe into the investigation of the Pakistani vessel that was caught, off Gujarat coast, the previous week. The vessel was reported to be carrying 200 packets of heroin worth Rs 600 crores.
Official sources stated that the state government on Saturday asked the Mumbai police force to take charge of the investigations. On Sunday, the Yellow gate police registered a report under various charges of the Indian Penal Code. The arrested are scheduled to be presented before the local court on Monday.
Intelligence Bureau, the Indian Coast guard and the Navy had intercepted a Pakistani vessel that had been smuggled into the nation illegally with the huge contraband. Agencies and other officials also recovered a pair of satellite phones and a GPS set from the eight accused, that clearly indicated that the boat was on a mission to deliver the high value consignment of drugs mid-sea. The officials suspected the contraband was to delivered along the coasts of Gujarat.
The latest seizure of comes just four months after the Coast Guard intercepted a Pakistani fishing boat for the first time in this year that had been suspected to be carrying explosives and other ammunition. That boat was suspected to heading towards the peninsula with explosives to carry out another terror attack like the 26/11 in India.
