The Supreme Court of Pakistan summoned Prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to be present in the court in person on January 19 after the apex court found his action of not re-opening corruption cases – ‘a contempt of court’.
“The Supreme Court has issued a contempt of court notice to the prime minister for not complying with its orders. He has been directed to appear personally on January 19” Judge Nasir-ul-Mulk ordered.
The Court wants the Pakistan government to re-open the corruption case against President Asif Ali Zardari whom currently enjoying an immunity from the government. PM Yousuf Raza Gilani refused to open the case in order to remain in the office by taking Zardari’s party (Pakistan People’s Party) support.
At this moment Pakistan government is going through lots of mess. One hand the government is facing another court procedure that could unseat Gilani’s leadership and force early elections, on the other hand Gilani is having furious tension with the powerful army chief Kiyani. President Zardari is also under pressure from an investigation into Memogate scandal.
