As expected, BJP has announced that revenue minister Anandiben Patel will take over as the next Gujarat Chief Minister. With Anandiben Gujarat also gets its first ever woman CM.
Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal and submitted his resignation as chief Minister of the state.
Gujarat assembly held a special session today to bid farewell to Gujarat CM who served the state for the last 13 years.
In a rare gesture Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela presented Modi with a shawl and praised his tenure.
“People have voted for you with immense expectations. You will not be the PM of BJP but the PM of entire India,” Vaghela said.
“It is a day of pride for Gujarat that a son of Gujarat will be the PM of India,” Anandiben Patel said.
In an emotional speech, Narendra Modi said, “I may have not spoken much in the House, but I’ve made it a point to listen to every leader, including the opposition’s.”
“I was fortunate to have been elected the Chief Minister of Gujarat,” Modi said adding, “I faced a lot of challenges when I was appointed the Chief Minister. The praise one gets from his own people is most valuable.”
“I am sure Gujarat is now on the path to success,” Modi said.
On a lighter note he said, “Now Gujarati will be spoken in the PMO, dhokla and khakhra will be eaten.”
Modi will take oath as Prime Minister on 26th May.
