Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today addressed NRIs at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Speaking at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, Modi asked NRIs to continue their help to keep the country united.
“We need inclusive, interactive, decentralized governance and democracy. Our two strengths are in democracy and demography,” Modi said.
“India will complete 75 year of Independence in 2022. It should be marked as Amrut Mahotsav. We should take this as an occasion to give a developed India globally admired, locally inclusive,” he said.
“There is a perception in some quarters outside India that the country is losing its momentum of the past decade. I wish to assure you that there is no reason to despair about our present or worry about our future. Indeed, as I have said earlier, we are heading into better times ahead and I would urge you to remain engaged in the future of this country with confidence and optimism,” he added.
Narendra Modi also ridiculed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his own style.
Agreeing with Manmohan Singh’s comment that ‘good days are ahead for India’, Modi said he agrees with him as BJP will sweep the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“Yesterday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke and said that good days are going to come. But I think, we may have to wait 4-6 months,” Modi said.
Praising Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Modi said he unified the country.
“Sardar Patel worked for unity. If Sardar Patel was not there, we might have needed a Pakistani visa to see Gir lions,” Modi said.
