According to new reports the US is no longer skeptical towards Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. A senior official in the US government recently expressed desire to work with Modi if he becomes India’s next PM after the Lok Sabha election in 2014.
“We will work with the leader of the world’s largest democracy. There is no question about that,” a senior Obama administration official told PTI on Thursday.
According to the official Visa is not an issue.
“Visa issue is a media creation. He has to apply and we will review. He (Modi) has not applied (for a visa),” said the official.
When the reporter asked the person who spoke on the condition of anonymity that if it would be a problem for US if Modi becomes Prime Minister, the US official said, “I think that the United States had a very strong relationship with the previous Indian government when it was under BJP leadership.”
“I think the relationship between the United States and India is an enduring one, it is a bipartisan in the United States, irrespective of who is in office. And we believe that (in a ) multiparty (system) in India that it is supported by all political parties, we expect that relationship to continue,” he added.
PTI also quoted another US official who said, “there is not a lot of angst about him (Modi).”
