Reacting to Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal’s remark over his background, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said that,”This shows the mentality of the SP leader.”
“The question is not about Modi. It is about how people born in rich families, people who have spent their life like royalties are mocking the poor and that is why they are using such language,” he added.
“Will it (leading the country) depend on who was born where? Will it depend on who was educated where or what he did to earn a living when he was a child?,” Modi asked the audience at an election rally in Durg in Chhattisgarh.
Yesterday Naresh Agarwal had said in a rally that although Narendra Modi wants to be PM but someone coming from a tea shop background can never become India’s Prime Minister.
“Narendra Modi says he used to sell tea. He wants to be PM now. A tea vendor can never have a national outlook. If you make a ‘sipahi’ (constable) as ‘kaptan’ (Superintendent of Police), he can never have an SP’s approach but will have that of a constable,” Agarwal claimed.
Only last month Agarwal made another controversial and derogatory remark against Modi and BJP.
Against BJP he said, “There is a saying in my village that if you ask a widow’s blessings, she will ask you to become like her. The BJP too is asking everyone to become like them.” And attacking Modi he had said, “His thoughts are limited as he is a CM of a small state.”
After receiving sharp criticism for his comments today, however, Naresh Agarwal declined from his earlier comments and blamed media for misquoting him.
