BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will face Congress general secretary Madhusudan Mistry in the Vadodara Lok Sabha seat.
After Congress candidate Narendra Ravat withdrew his candidature, the party was forced to pit Rahul Gandhi’s close aide Madhusudan Mistry against Modi to save itself from embarrassment.
It’s also a sign that it will look for a suitably high-profile candidate to stand in Varanasi, the other Lok Sabha seat that Modi is contesting and in which the Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal will be vying for votes as well.
Mistry who is known vocal critic of Modi, is being seen as a strong candidate against the Gujarat Chief Minister.
“I am happy to fight against Modi and I am confident of a victory,” Mistry said.
As expected on Tuesday, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal has announced his candidature against Narendra Modi from Varanasi constituency. This royal battle will surely be keenly watched for the Lok Sabha elections.
“I am ready to accept this challenge,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal said AAP will defeat BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Modi from Varanasi and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.
“Everyone should take one month off (for volunteer election work). One half of the people should come to Amethi and the other half to Varanasi. Let us convert this election into a historic political movement,” Kejriwal said.
Although Congress has not yet declared its candidate against Modi in temple city, but the sources are telling that the party may announce Digvijaya Singh’s name this week.
