Addressing a mass rally in Chattarpur in Madhya Pradesh BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has challenged Congress leaderships to compete over development issues.
“I want Congress to challenge us over development issues. Sonia, Shehzade if you want to take us on, do it on development and not on the basis of lies,” Modi said.
Attacking Congress President Sonia Gandhi and its vice president Rahul Gandhi Modi said indeed BJP is a party of thieves as they stolen sleep from Congress.
“Congress calls us (chor) thieves, I would like to say we accept the charge because we have stolen the sleep of Congress workers,” he said.
Blamed Congress for its ‘inaction’ during their 10-year-old rule, Modi said, “Congress leaders go to villages and make provocative speeches. I want to ask what they did in all these years? But have they built schools, roads, hospitals in 50 years of rule in the state? They have only destroyed the state. A comparison between MP’s highways and national highways can show how much work the state govt has done. If you (Congress) want to fight with the BJP, fight on the plank of development.”
Praising Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Modi said, “It took long for BJP to undo wrongdoings of Congress in MP.”
“In a democracy it is the responsibility of parties to give an account for all their expenses. But govt in Delhi doesn’t do so. On the other hand, Shivraj Singh went to villages across the state and told the people about what his government has achieved. I congratulate Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his entire team,” he said.
“Shivraj ji has done a lot of irrigation work. Can you see this development or not? You can see it but Delhi cannot. In 10 years, BJP has taken the cultivable land to 25 lakh hectares in MP. Wheat production was 50 lakh tonnes under Cong. Under the BJP land and farmers remain the same, but 160 lakh tonnes are produced now,” he added.
Attacking Congress general secretary and former Chief Minister of MP, Digvijaya Singh, Modi said, “when the chairman of the lie manufacturing industry used to be in power, the farmers were committing suicide”.
Taking on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent accusation that BJP is lowering political discourse, Modi said,”PM has said the quality of political discourse has been lowered by us. Dear PM,who reduced the level of politics? It is the VP of your Party who called your decision a nonsense in a press conference, do not blame us.”
